Hilary and Joel Meet the Parents
Joel Madden is taking girlfriend Hilary Duff home to Mom this summer. “I really want her to see where I grew up, because (it’s) sort of a humble place. It’s not Hollywood at all,” the Good Charlotte rocker says of his Waldorf, Md., hometown. “I want her to see that different life and take her to the jobs I used to have – unloading trucks, making pizzas and waiting tables.”Â
And Duff is also teaching her beau a little about her way of life: She’s giving Madden pointers for his acting debut in the movie Valley of the Damned, which starts filming this month. “My girlfriend has been really helpful – she’s a great little actress,” he told us at the House of Hype swag suite in Beverly Hills recently.
As an extremely proud native of Waldorf, MD, I was a bit offended of Miss Duff’s comment that Waldorf was “ghettoâ€. Yes, Waldorf can be hectic during rush hour, Christmas, Thanksgiving, labor day, President’s Day, Arbor day, Canada day, Lincoln’s Birthday…..in short, pretty much EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. And yes, there are parts that aren’t the greatest to visit or to be walking down the street alone at midnight. But how many cities are perfect?? If her comments were taken out of context, then she doesn’t deserve the backlash. If she said exactly what she meant by it being ghetto, then she deserves it. The response from the Waldorf residents really shows how many people take pride in our city. I am proud that such a talented band came from Waldorf, and hopefuly Joel can show her what a beautiful and historic town this really is. Oh yeah….we’re all just esctatic to hear that Hilary Duff has never had crabs…good for her….
