Nick and Jessica About to be Single

Nick and Jessica are about to make it official. In court documents made available today, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have asked the court to appoint a retired judge, Judge Dana Senit Henry, to enter a divorce decree, TMZ reports.

Simpson and Lachey are asking to “bifurcate” the divorce case, meaning the divorce can become final and the parties can then deal with the complicated financial matters afterward.

The papers require a “sign off” from the presiding judge before it becomes official. The judge is on vacation until next week, but after he signs it, Judge Senit Henry is expected to issue the divorce decree immediately. Simpson filed for divorce on December 16, 2005.
