Mel Gibson Arrested for DUI

Mel Gibson Arrested for DUI

Mel Gibson was arrested for a driving under the influence early Friday morning in Malibu, according to the booking report.

Gibson, 50, was pulled over on the Pacific Coast Highway, sheriff’s spokesperson Steve Whitmore tells CNN. Officers on patrol said Gibson was driving at an “excessively fast speed,” according to Whitmore.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Whitmore told the Associated Press. “As we would do with anyone, we don’t want to release any more since the information is fragmentary.”

Gibson was stopped at 2:36 a.m., charged with a misdemeanor and posted $5,000 bond, according to booking papers.

Gibson’s rep, Alan Nierob, said he was looking into the matter.

Gibson, who has admitted to past problems with alcohol, ran a red light and collided with another car in 1984 while driving drunk. In 1991, he joined Alcoholics Anonymous.

Gibson’s 1995 film, Braveheart, which he directed and starred in, won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director. His newest film, Apocalypto, set in the Mayan civilization of several centuries ago, is due out in December.

  1. I recently received a DUI in Orange Beach, AL. So I can somewhat understand how Mel is feeling. Although in my case, I think the police were just bored because I was driving well (yes I had been drinking) and didn’t get any traffic violation just a DUI once they pulled me over and I couldn’t hold my leg up long enough for them. Anyway, my comment; I read Mel’s statements in the Associated press and I think that he is truly a good-hearted person and that he doesn’t wish ill on anyone, any race. It’s just blown out of proportion. Who hasn’t ever said anything dumb, stupid, off the wall, etc. (you get my meaning). I think Mel is a great actor and director and I wish him all the best.

  3. I wish everyone would give this guy a break. He is human and makes mistakes. We all do. Yes, he may have a drinking problem, but that doesn’t make him bad all of the sudden. Mel needs support during this time that he is going through this difficult time in his life. I don’t think that anyone could live a life in the public eye without messing up in some way. “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” I applaud Mel for coming out with an appology as quickly as he did. I think that he would not have done it unless he was truly appologetic for what he said. Not only that, but to acknowledge that he has a drinking problem and that he is seeking help takes a lot of guts. I know that I could not live having everyone around the world knowing everything about me and evertime I do something wrong.

  4. I just came from a web site that told of how the movie the passion was recieved in the middle east. The missionaries, were in awe of how the Lord was using Mr.Gibsons movie,”The Passion of CHRIST”to reach the Muslims with the Gospel.I’m sure Mr. Gibson has been under unbearable stress in the last couple of years. He has been called by the Lord and was obedient.Any thing not of the Lord in his heart,JESUS will deal with. And Just know Mr. Gibson,Many, people have you in their prayers.JESUS is LORD! HE, was also a Jew,and he said Love Your neighbor as yourself. He died so we might LIVE forever with him.God bless You

  5. My father was an aloholic for many years, although
the last 25 years of his life he was cold sober. the
word of alohlic is a disease not to be frowned on but
treatment and controlled. Mel Gibson is one of the
best actors and directors I have enjoyed in my 70 years. The passion of Christ was so on target.
my sincere best wishes and prayers are with him and
his family. I am a Catholic and am reminded daily
of forgiveness. Best to Mr Gibson.
