Days after being cited for driving under the influence, Lindsay Lohan has checked into rehab, her rep confirms.

“Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation facility on Memorial Day,” Lohan’s publicist said in a statement Tuesday.

“Because this is a medical matter, it is our hope that the press will appreciate the seriousness of the situation and respect the privacy of Lindsay as well as the other patients receiving treatment at the facility.”

After all the news coverage she’s received lately, Britney Spears is opening up to fans, writing on her her Web site: “I just wanted to reach out to all of you and explain some of the things that I have been faced with recently.”

In a nearly 900-word message, the singer, 25, addresses such topics as her stint in rehab, the pressures she’s under, the realizations she’s made over the last year, and the blessings of having children.

Rosie O’Donnell was not fired and she is welcome back on The View whenever she wants, Barbara Walters said at the outset of Tuesday’s show.

The announcement came during the first live broadcast of the ABC daytime chatfest since last Wednesday’s on-air clash between politically opposed O’Donnell, 45, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 29. On Friday, ABC announced that Rosie would not return, leaving the program three weeks before her scheduled departure next month. On Sunday, O’Donnell posted on her blog that she is “not sorry” to be leaving.
