Grabbing ahold of the top spot immediately upon hitting theaters, "Underworld: Awakening" finds itself perched atop the pack at the box office over the weekend of January 20-22, 2012.

The Kate Beckinsale starring fantasy flick took in an estimated $9.3 million on opening day and another $10.2 million on Saturday while expected to make a solid $25.2 million by the end of the weekend.

Not too far behind is the George Lucas crafted Tuskegee airmen focused picture "Red Tails," which claimed the runner-up slot by garnering $6 million on Friday and $8.6 million on Saturday while anticipated to bring in a total of $19.4 million on it's opening weekend of release.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals are the Mark Wahlberg starring crime/action caper "Contraband" ($12.3 million), followed by another theatrical newcomer in the Sandra Bullock/Tom Hanks starring motion picture "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" ($10.2 million) and "Haywire" ($8.6 million).
