Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon Biography

Reese Witherspoon

Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born March 22, 1976) is an Academy Award-winning American actress best known for her roles in Election, Legally Blonde, and Walk the Line.

Early life
Witherspoon was born in [New Orleans, Louisiana] to John Witherspoon, a surgeon, and Betty Reese, a nurse and college professor. She is a direct descendant of Scottish-born John Witherspoon, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence and sixth president of Princeton University, who was also a Presbyterian minister. Because her father worked for the US military in Wiesbaden, Germany, she lived there for four years as a small child. After returning to the United States, Witherspoon spent much of her childhood and adolescence in Nashville, Tennessee. She has an older brother, John, who works as a real estate broker. After graduating from the prestigious private all-girl’s Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, she attended Stanford University as a literature major. After completing a year of her studies, she left Stanford to pursue her acting career.

.
Career
Witherspoon began her career in local commercials. Her first role was in a 1991 made-for-TV movie called Wildflower, directed by Diane Keaton and starring Beau Bridges, William McNamara, and Patricia Arquette. That same year, at age 14, Witherspoon attended an open casting call for The Man in the Moon, intending to audition as a bit player. She was instead cast in the lead role, immediately capturing the attention of critics. She has since built up an impressive filmography, playing both comedic and dramatic roles, including performances as Vanessa in Freeway and Tracy Flick in Election. She was the voice of the animated character Greta Wolfecastle in The Simpsons episode The Bart Wants What It Wants. She also played Jill, Rachael’s sister, in season six of “Friends.”

Legally Blonde award

She achieved fame and a Golden Globe Best Actress nomination for her role as a fashion designer major who decided to become a law student to follow her ex-boyfriend in the 2001 film Legally Blonde, and became a leading environmental lawyer in its sequel Legally Blonde 2, for which she received a reported $15 million paycheck, making her one of Hollywood’s top-paid actresses.

She has garnered critical praise and awards for her turn as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. Carter Cash, who died in 2003, personally approved of Witherspoon to play her. Witherspoon won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, NYFCC, the FFCC, the SFFCC Award for Best Actress, the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) for best actress in a lead role, the British Academy’s BAFTA for best actress in a lead role, the “Favorite Leading Lady” at the 32nd Annual People’s Choice Awards, and the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role.

Reese Witherspoon golden globe

Recently, Witherspoon has been featured as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. Her article was written by friend and fellow costar in the Legally Blonde movies, Luke Wilson.

Witherspoon also runs a production company, Type A Productions. The company is named after her childhood nickname “Little Miss Type A.”

.
Personal life
Witherspoon met actor Ryan Phillippe at her 21st birthday party in March 1997, where she reportedly said to him, “You must be my birthday present.”

Reese and Ryan

The pair were engaged in December 1998. Soon after, the couple starred together in the box office hit Cruel Intentions. They were married on a plantation in Charleston, South Carolina on June 5, 1999. They have two children together: daughter Ava Elizabeth, born September 9, 1999, and son Deacon, born October 23, 2003. Ava is named after Phillippe’s grandmother, and Deacon after one of his distant relatives. Witherspoon and Phillippe have a pact that one of them will always be a full-time parent to the children, and they thus alternate filming schedules. Witherspoon is known for being a very hands-on mother, and she and her husband claim to have never employed a full-time nanny. The family resides in Los Angeles.

Ava and Deacon

In June 2006 on the cover of Star, stated that Reese and Ryan may be pregnant with their third child. This story is false and Reese is suing for damages.

.
Paparazzi incident
In September 2005, Witherspoon and her children were celebrating daughter Ava’s sixth birthday at Disney’s California Adventure theme park when they were approached by paparazzi photographer, Todd Wallace. After Witherspoon declined to pose for photos at close range, police say Wallace became enraged and pushed a child out of the way, while hitting another with his camera, in his efforts to photograph the actress.

Wallace also allegedly shoved two theme park employees when they attempted to restrain him, and cursed at Witherspoon, causing several children to burst into tears. As a result of the altercation, Wallace was arrested and faced misdemeanor charges. However, before the case went to trial, Wallace was found dead in his apartment in Brentwood. Police are currently investigating the cause of death.

  1. reese and ryan were so cute together. i dont like the fact that they are seperated. it’s to bad that ryan supposidly cheated on reese. i think it might be b/c she was more famous than him i also think that is what happened w/ nick and jessica (simpson).

  2. Dear Ms. Witherspoon:

I’d like to pass on this e-mail to Ms Witherspoon and other top Movie Stars. Pretty Boy Floyd was alleged to asked by the Press why he robbed banks. His alleged answer was, “That’s where the money is!”

I am in dire straights financially for this and the last three years due to disabling injuries that date back to 2004. One painful injury has been compounded by another every year. I have occupied some of my less painful days writing a book published by Lulu Publishing and can be found at their website, http://www.lulu.com/comtent/202757. The book is titled “A Brief Introduction to God, the Universe and everything,” and reports from the purchasers has been positive with from five ***** to six****** stars out of six. It is a SCI if thriller/mystery with a twisty ending. All info can be found at the website, and the book can be purchased as a download or a tasteful paper bound 6X9 format. I use a pseudonym to protect myself from people who may have the hubris to believe I have used them as character models, when in effect, the only character model has been myself. What follows is a brief synopsis of my biography, and my financial requests from those who can afford charity to make at least one Christmas a good one for myself and especially my 87 Y/O mother who is bedbound, and for who I am the primary and full-time caretaker. I cannot bear the thought of placing her in a nursing home in Florida, where the elderly are warehoused and treated like commodities. Cruel, uncaring and sadistic nursing home personnel make the option untenable. I need some help from those who can afford help:

Heres my story in a nutshell… I was born October 12.1947. I have a lurking suspicion that my love of fast aircraft, automobiles, boats and motorcycles come from a reincarnation of one of the test pilots who died flying that bullet of an experimental airplane generically called the X-1. The thought is burned in my mind. During work visits to GB, France and the Channel Coast Countries in general I have had numerous déjà vu experiences. Smells of oil mixed with av-gas, the feel of a control stick in my hand and an uneasy feeling of friends gone missing repeat in an overwhelming uber consciousness.

I had no such indescribable thoughts in Cambodia, Laos and even Southern China during the Vietnam “conflict”. Just green tracers flying in my direction and the screams of dying NVA. Prior to my stint jumping out of C-130s at 25,000 ft doing HAHO with a very small oxygen bottle, I was aboard the Allen M Sumner, DD-692, and customized WWII relic with M-1s, Thompson SMGs, and WWI .45 ACPs.

After serving my country, I served as a Junior Jail Guard at facilities for delinquent youth (this after getting two B.A. degrees from USF in 1973) working for the minimum wage. I was laid off from this lucrative position in 1976 and joined the Merchant Marines for ten years until the death of my Father.
I vowed to him I would care for my mother, which I have faithfully done, ever since. I became a Child Abuse Investigator, Armed Security Officer, and Private Investigator. Mom has been bed bound for the last three years. I happen to love her very much, partly explaining my devotion. She is a WWII Vet.

I am disabled from a crushed right shoulder, a broken back from being struck by a truck while riding a bike, the sidewalk, and most recently after a motorcycle accident caused by a hit and run driver. I laid the bike down rather that hit him head on, and broke my collar bone, two ribs and scapula. Not to mention a few Top Secret bullet holes and shrapnel holes, I’ve been waiting for over two years to get a Social Security Hearing despite have worked regularly for the past 42 years. Don’t ya just love America’s Bulging Bureaucracy??? My military exploits in Thailand, Cambodia, et al, don’t exist, retrieval impossible. I didn’t exist and only six politicians/bureaucrats knew of my main missions.

My mother and I are living on a combined income of $1500 per month from my early State retirement and her Socialist Security. I can barely pay the bills.

I need funds to take care of Mom and myself, and a car to get around in. My motor scooter works when in wants to and never in the rain in rainy Florida. The Veteran’s Admin “don’t have a car for me”.I don’t want a race car, but rather something compact and utilitarian. I need a donation of around $50,000 to pay off debts and kieep me with a roof over my head. I am not a scam artist. I have tried the “generosity” of various church denominations but God’s help stops at the checkbook.
Help me if you can. Thanks.

I’ve occupied my time writing a book, A Brief Introduction to God, the Universe and Everything, which can be found and ordered on line at http://www.lulu.com/content/202757. It is Sci-Fi in nature, with as much Science as Fiction. I’ve also been told it’s a bit on the humorous side (tongue in cheek-like).
I think it would have been a better seller by now, but I’m a poor sales man.

    There’s been a Great Mistake I fear,
That there’s No One left in Here to Hear
The Sound of Trumpets Blaring away
At the Coming of the Breaking Day,

Nor Eyes to See the Beamish Boy
As he chortled in His Tulgey Joy,
Nor Hands to Fell the Tumtum Tree
Struck with The Sword with which He

    Had felled the Fabled Jabberwocky
As it Fell to Earth Gahn Aft Aglee,
    Perchance with Wiffling Uffish Noise
That made the Bandersnatch steal The Boys

Who rode astride the Jujib Bird
Into the Tulgey Sky which has Heard
The Sound of Trumpets blaring away
At the Coming of the Breaking Day.
