Sandra’s Alleged Stalker Must Stay Away

Sandra Bullock’s accused stalker – whom the star says followed her across several states and barraged her with faxes and e-mails – was ordered Wednesday to keep his distance from the actress until 2009. 

Thomas James Weldon, 37, was under a court order that took effect in 2003, demanding that he remain at least 200 feet from Bullock, 41, reports the Associated Press.

With that order due to expire on June 5, the actress sought an extension, telling the court: “I do not know defendant, I have never met him and I have never communicated with him nor voluntarily accepted any communication from him.”

But, she also said in her documents, Weldon had trailed her from Michigan to Texas and California, sending her e-mails and faxes and leaving voice mail messages with her and her family “indicating he wants to have a relationship with her.”

Neither Bullock, who is married to Monster Garage star Jesse James, nor Weldon appeared in court for Wednesday’s hearing.

“I think she can feel a little bit safer now,” Bullock’s attorney, Edwin F. McPherson, said after Wednesday’s hearing.

Weldon voluntarily entered the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute in Nashville just before the 2003 order, and has “admitted a serious psychological disorder (paranoid schizophrenia) for which he has often refused to take medication,” Bullock’s attorney, Edwin F. McPherson, said in a statement included in court papers.

McPherson said the hospital is planning to allow Weldon a 90-day furlough in September, and that he believes Weldon remains fixated on Bullock.
